How to Write a Paragraph Using

the Sandwich Method

  1. The Top piece of Bread is the TOPIC SENTENCE:  This is a brief summary of your answer to the question.  The topic sentence should include all your key points that you will write about in the paragraph.  It should NOT include anything you are NOT writing about.

  2. The tomatos are SENTENCE 2: YOUR FIRST THOUGHT AND EVIDENCE:  The next sentence is the first idea you are writing about.  You also need to include evidence from your readings that support your answer.  For example, "Earthquakes can cause a lot of damage to buildings, I saw this in the first video I watched."
  3. The lettuce is SENTENCE 3: YOUR SECOND THOUGHT AND EVIDENCE:  The next sentence is the second idea you are writing about.  You also need to include evidence from your readings that support your answer.  For example, "Earthquakes happen at fault lines.  I read about this in the Magic Tree House book."
  4. The meat is SENTENCE 4: YOUR THIRD THOUGHT AND EVIDENCE:  The next sentence is the third idea you are writing about.  You also need to include evidence from your readings that support your answer.  For example, "Earthquakes are dangerous because they can make big holes in the earth, I saw this in the second video I watched today."
  5. The bottom piece of bread is the CONCLUDING SENTENCE:  This sentence is very similar to your topic sentence, it should include a summary of your paragraph, "I learned three important facts today about earthquakes."
